comON FashiON

The activity of the textile sector allows the most talented and promising fashion designers, selected by the most highly respected European institutions involved in the field of talent scouting, to be brought into contact with the productive reality of the Como textile and fashion sector via in-company internships, guided visits to the main centers of excellence in the Larian territory, conferences and workshops of an educational nature.

On 11 October more than thirty young fashion designers will begin their six-week internships at the same number of companies from the Larian silk weaving industry. The internships will finish on 26 November, with an break planned from 17 to 24 October to allow the interns to take part in Creativity Week.

European Textile Trainee

European Textile Trainee is a project run by a committee based in Tilburg, a town 25 km from Eindhoven, boasting a strong wool textiles tradition. Although the town is no longer an active manufacturing centre, the Audax Textile Museum promotes the E.T.T. project, involving more than fifteen schools and cultural institutions in the textiles field from a number of different European countries.

Texprint

Texprint is a charity, a London based non-profit organization, whose aim is to bring the most promising recently graduated young British designers into contact with the manufacturing world. For almost 50 years, in fact, Texprint has been bringing together the style schools in the United Kingdom, choosing the best students and giving them the possibility to exhibit their works at an event organized in London during the second half of July. The works are evaluated and prizes awarded and the designers are once again offered the possibility to exhibit them, this time in September, at Première Vision in Paris, the most important textile trade fair in Europe.

Following the same rationale of encouragement and support already foreseen for ETT, comON has become a major sponsor of Texprint and Texprint has organised a special award for the event: the comON Texprint 2010.

The competition will involve all the style schools in the United Kingdom in the production of textile creations which develop the theme of water in weave, print and needlework.

The final awards ceremony will take place at the Chelsea College of Art in London in mid-July, with the presence of the participating schools and the announcement of the comON Texprint 2010 award winners.

The top three place getters will receive a small cash prize and will be offered an internship scheduled to begin on 10 october 2010.

These three students will be joined by a further three, who will take part in the comON Creativity Week, 17-24 October 2010.

Tech Style New Design has attracted 25 carefully selected graduates from all over the world, and 12 of them will be involved in the comON training program, taking part in its Creativity week and completing internships.

On 21 October, at the Como campus of the Polytechnic University of Milan, the “Tech Style New Design” course participants will present their creations. The occasion will also be a showcase for the work of the young designers from the E.T.T. and Texprint initiatives.
