COMON_ART ALARMI 2011 CONTEMPORARY LIGHTING CONTEXT installations, talks and culture From 14th October to 6th November 2011 Caserma de Cristoforis, Piazzale Montesanto 2, Como Artistic directors Romano Baratta and Jessica Anais Savoia
The 2011 exhibition of contemporary art “Alarmi” has undergone a complete renewal for the comON event and is dedicated to the subject of light and lighting in the “Contemporary Lighting Context”, resulting in the first “AMBIENT LIGHTING” festival in Italy. Most unusually the festival will be set in an operational military garrison. The Caserma de Cristoforis of Como actually offers both imposing charm and large spaces. The event will be held on the first floor of one of the buildings and will occupy former living quarters and their adjacent corridors and bathrooms. The particular nature of the venue will bestow unique qualities on an exhibition that is supported by a number of public institutions, while permitting many people to get involved, including artists and lighting engineers who will be able to set up site-specific installations for a whole range of quite diverse spaces. The first Contemporary Lighting Context will host the works of noted figures such as Piero Castiglioni, Margherita Suss, Fulvio Michelazzi and Chiara Baldacci as well as many emerging talents such as Marcello Zagaria and those of the Azione Luce Collective. Possible contributors will also include people who are themselves outsiders to the world of lighting, such as directors, writers and actors who will air their own individual ideas on the world of light. It will thus be a journey into light and its applications in art and in diverse environments, as well providing the opportunity for debate and exploration, with public encounters on the subject being held in the course of the event. Not only this, the exhibition will also include installations in spaces away from Caserma de Cristoforis, but still in Como, to attract and involve as wide a public as possible. The exhibition will continue for three weeks will parallel events guided by the light artist and light designer Romano Baratta, who heads the Lighting Lab of Gallarate and who founded the contemporary portal Lighting Now!, working in close collaboration with Jessica Anais Savoia, curator, art expert and president of Associazione Culturale Erodoto, with whom he has been organising and promoting contemporary art and architecture events for the last four years.
