The second edition of ComOn, the week dedicated to the many aspects of creativity, sees the addition of a project dedicated to contemporary art, curated by the critic Roberto Borghi.
Six curators were called upon to present their own project for an artistic installation in Piazza Volta, Como.
The only rules in this competition were that the project had to be specific for the square in question and it had to be eco-sustainable with a maximum cost to be covered by the organisation producing the winning project at the next edition of ComOn in 2010.
Curators and artists worked to these specifications and entered projects for temporary installations that highlighted the relationship between nature, recycling materials and the urban context that would provide their location.
The projects on show and the curators
The projects presented by the curators Caterina Aicardi, Gian Marco Capraro, Davide Longfils, Valentina Mauri, Laura Santamaria (with Cesare Malfatti) and Jessica Anais Savoia were printed on panels and displayed in the headquarters of the Como Regional Polytechnic Campus, adjacent to the ComOn Design Exhibition, at 7, Via Castelnuovo, running from 12 to 24 October 2009.
The jury
The jury, chaired by Paolo De Santis, president of the Como Chamber of Commerce, and made up of professionals in the art, history and architecture sector, such as Alessandra Coppa, Emma Gravagnuolo and Roberto Borghi, will announce the project winner who will receive a contribution of €10,000 put up by Servizi Industriali Srl, on Saturday 24 October at 4.45 pm, again in the headquarters of the Como Regional Polytechnic Campus.
24 October at 4.30 pm
During the meeting, the curators will be asked to present their project, taking part in a debate about art and eco-sustainability.
This will be followed by presentation of the catalogue of all the projects entered in the competition, the series published by Edizioni Mneme, backed by the Associazione Culturale Erodoto in Como, a cultural association for young contemporary art.
