Jacob Andrew Monk
"I am a Textile Designer with a woven specialism, recently graduated from Central Saint Martins in London. I was selected to be a part of Texprint and was the winner of The Woolmark Company Texprint Award for my creative uses of merino wool. As a result of this I was taken to exhibit my designs at Intertextile Apparel Fabrics, Shanghai.
I am passionate about exploring different techniques and combining disciplines such as embroidery and print, with woven design being the core of my practice. I enjoy designing for menswear, suiting and accessories but my style and designs are suitable for many different purposes, which I show using simple yet elegant illustrations, making an idea more of a reality.
My final collection was looking at the relationship between man-made protective wear and protection that is found in nature. I was able to investigate the wide range of textures and patterns in animals skin such as armadillos, porcupines and reptiles and the specialist materials used in uniforms. I used this inspiration to create exaggerated textures and surfaces using a range of techniques. Transforming innovative yarns such as kevlar and reflexives into sophisticated menswear fabrics that are aimed at the luxury market."
