Amy Elizabeth Smith
"I studied for my degree specialising in printed textiles at Heriot Watt University in the Scottish Borders and gone on to exhibit my collections at New Designers London, Premier Vision Paris and Intertextiles Shanghai. I am inspired by nature with an urban context such as Columbia Road flower market in London and Glasgow botanical gardens which combine florals with stunning geometric settings. I record my findings through photography, mark making and observations drawing. Experimentation through my advanced knowledge Photoshop, Illustrator and AVA create concepts which inform mood within my collections. Inspired by my original photography and dye mixing, colour evolves naturally through sketchbooks and into design work.My collections have a focus on both screen and digital techniques such as colour separations and photographic prints, which have been designed in small groups of ideas. The designs are then developed with focus on the balance of harmony and the unexpected. Evaluation of colour, scale and pattern along with trend analysis ensures the designs work well together as a collection and for the current womenswear market. I regularly visit archives, exhibitions and museums both for inspiration and enjoyment along with reading a wide range of genres and media. Swimming also relaxes me in this fast paced, exciting industry."
